Curriculum - Overview

A curriculum overview is available at the start of each new theme. The following subjects are included:

  • Social studies (cultures, people, clothing, food)
  • Geography (maps, continents & seas, countries, cities)
  • Food & cooking
  • Human body, health
  • Animals, birds, nature
  • Transportation, weather
  • Safety & dangers (poisons, fire, road)
  • Emotional development (feelings, ownership, respect, patience, recognition)

Languages

The children receive instruction in both German and English. This requires careful administration of the rules. Our staff speak only 1 language to the children and this prevents the mixing of the languages for the child.

To improve their language skills we work on vocabulary, basic phonics, an introduction to letters and numbers, receptive and expressive language and articulation.

Arts & Crafts

The aim of the arts subject is to develop creativity and aesthetic valuing. The children experience a wide variety of mediums and techniques such as drawing, painting, clay, hammers & nails, nuts & bolts, dough, scissors, paper, cardboard, glue, tape felt etc. The children's artwork is often displayed in classrooms and school hallways. At the end of each year the children take their work with them.

Sport

Once a week we visit the local high school gymnasium to conduct sport lessons. There we have access to various instruments for use during the physical education classes such as slides, swings, bicycles, see-saw, balance bar, trampoline, horizontal & vertical ladder, mats, basket ball, skipping etc.

We understand the importance for children of outdoor play and since we do not have a garden, we ensure that the children are outside at least 3 times a week or more, in one of the many local parks and playgrounds in the area.

Music, Dance & Theatre

One important part of learning is music. We sing many songs, play various instruments and enhance our knowledge of movement through rhythmic activities, including dancing. We also include role play and acting regularly in our curriculum.

Math & Science

The science subject  introduces the children to the basic concepts of mathematics, physics and chemistry. Our goal includes students approaching science with curiosity, enjoyment and fascination. They have hands-on experience with several experiments, learn to think, observe and analyze thinking, problem solving and applying what they have learnt in real life. They are introduced to concepts such as weights, speed, light, sound, sizes, numbers etc.

In addition to the traditional science subjects we also include computer work as part of our curriculum.
